Terms of Service

Last updated: September 16, 2026

LifeLetter is operated by LifeLetterApp LLC ("LifeLetter", "we", "us"). By creating an account or using LifeLetter, you agree to these terms. Please read them.

Who can use lifeletter

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed these terms and agrees to them on your behalf. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details private and for everything that happens under your account.

Your stories

You own what you write and upload. You give LifeLetter a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and deliver your content to the people you choose, and to show a preview (title, cover, and opening lines) to anyone you share a link with. We will not use your stories in advertising or marketing without asking you first. You are responsible for your content and confirm it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

What you agree not to do

Do not post content that is unlawful, harassing, defamatory, or abusive; that infringes someone's intellectual property; that contains malware; that is spam; that impersonates a person or organization; or that exploits or endangers minors in any way. Do not attempt to access other people's accounts or data, or interfere with the service. We may remove content and suspend or close accounts that break these rules, with or without notice.

Payments

Paid plans are sold only on our website and billed through Stripe. The iOS app does not sell anything. Plans renew automatically each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Settings on the website; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for. We may change prices with at least 30 days' notice, and a change never applies to a period you have already paid.

Tips are voluntary gifts from a reader to a writer, processed by Stripe Connect and paid to the writer's own Stripe account. LifeLetter takes no share of tips; Stripe's card processing fee applies. LifeLetter never stores card numbers.

Refunds

If a plan is not working as described, email us within 14 days of a charge and we will fix it or refund that charge. Beyond that, we do not refund partial billing periods, but you keep access until the period ends. Tips are gifts and are not refundable by LifeLetter; if you believe a tip was charged in error, contact us and we will help you reach the writer or your card issuer.

Your account and deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your profile, stories, drafts, writing practice, responses, connections, newspaper memberships, and uploaded photos and videos are removed and cannot be recovered. We may close accounts that are inactive for an extended period or that violate these terms.

Lifeletter's property

The LifeLetter name, logo, and software belong to LifeLetterApp LLC and its licensors. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute them without written permission.

No warranties

LifeLetter is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any content will remain available.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, LifeLetterApp LLC and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits or data, arising from your use of LifeLetter. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold harmless LifeLetterApp LLC, its operators, employees, and agents from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content, your use of LifeLetter, or your breach of these terms.

Copyright complaints

If you believe your copyrighted work appears on LifeLetter without permission, email fanaya@lifeletterapp.com with a description of the work, where it appears on LifeLetter, your contact details, and a statement that you believe the use is unauthorized. We follow the DMCA and will respond.

Disputes

Any dispute arising from these terms or from LifeLetter will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, and you waive the right to participate in a class action or class-wide arbitration. You may opt out of this arbitration clause by emailing us within 30 days of first accepting these terms. Nothing here limits rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your country that cannot be waived.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. For material changes we will ask you to accept the new version in the app. Continuing to use LifeLetter after a change means you accept it.
